So you are considering adding a
Steel
Magnolia White
Shepherd to your family ?
Honestly, the first question I need to ask you to ponder is: Why
do you want to buy a purebred puppy? And specifically, why a
White
Shepherd? First of all, thousands of dogs are killed every year,
and many of them would make a fine pet for you. Why not save
one? Please click here and read this
before you buy a pup from anyone.
Secondly, puppies can be a very big
responsibility. They need
your time and attention. Without
proper care and supervision, they can and will make a big mess of your
home. Are you ready for that?
And dogs aren't like cats...
you can't just leave out big bowls of food and water and go away for a
long weekend. You either take them with you, put them in a
kennel,
(which isn't cheap) or
someone needs to care for them in your absence. Are you prepared
for that? I could go on and on, but you get the point. Are
you sure you want to take on all the responsibilities of caring for a
large and active dog?
Now back to:
How to add a Steel Magnolia White Shepherd
to your family.
I obviously believe there are very good reasons to want a White
Shepherd puppy instead of a pound pup. I wouldn't be able to
breed them in good conscience if I were anything but solidly confident
of that need. A properly bred White Shepherd can be expected to
be athletic, highly intelligent, appropriately protective, strikingly
beautiful, and lovingly loyal. For more information on that,
please read
the
article I wrote with Jean Reeves, "A White
Shepherd Primer." Simply put, you choose a White Shepherd
when you know what to expect in a White Shepherd and you know that's
what you want. If you have any questions, feel free to email me
and ask whatever comes to mind.
Once you are sure a White Shepherd is right for your family and
your lifestyle, then you need to find a breeder. I only have 1 or
2 litters per year. If I don't have a pup for you, please contact
one of the other breeders on my links page.
When you contact me, there are 3 basic starter questions I ask of all
who enquire about puppies. Please include your answers to them -
I like to read your stories.
1. Why do you want a White Shepherd specifically?
2. Please tell me about your home and family.
3. Please tell me about dogs you've had before.
Also,
please review my contract. It is more informational than a normal
contract and will give you some feeling about how serious I am about my
dogs, their health, and their future. Click below.
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:
Pricing - $1100 (limited registration) to $1500 (full registration) based upon evaluation of temperament
and
conformation when the litter is about 6 weeks old. I do not
differentiate between male and female with respect to price.
Deposits - $200 (limited registration) and $300 (full registration). Deposits are
refundable if I cannot provide you with the dog I agreed to. If
you back out and I have extra time and expense before I find the dog a
home because of lost time or turned away buyers, I'll keep what I feel
is appropriate and return the difference.
Choosing who get's which
dog -
Since I will normally have placed many if not all of the pups with
their future homes before they are even evaluated, I generally will
play match maker based on temperament of the pups and what each buyer
is desiring. To some degree I will try to follow a first come
first serve philosophy, but top quality choices are made first.
I will doubtfully plan ahead for more than 2 male and 2 female top
quality dogs in an average litter. As they get closer to 6 weeks
of age, I may alter that. I will not breed a litter that I do not
expect will produce at least 50% top quality pups.
Hip and elbow testing - Emma's
hips have been evaluated by both PennHIP and OFA. Her PennHIP DI
scores are 0.32 left and 0.28 right, ranking 80th percentile. FYI, a DI
close to 0.30 indicates a low risk of developing HD. Closer to
0.70 indicates high risk of developing HD.
Her elbows are OFA Normal and hips are OFA Good.
